The Prayer

The Prayer in Islam: as Salat

Prayer is the most important obligation after the attestation of faith. It is also one of the 5 pillars of Islam. The prophet (sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said, " Islam is built on 5 pillars: to attest that there is from God that Allah and Muhammed is his messenger; perform the prayer; to give alms; complete the pilgrimage and fast the month of Ramadan. [al-Bukhari]

The prophet (sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said: " What separates man from polytheism and unbelief is giving up prayer. " [Muslim]. The prophet (sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam) also teaches us that prayer is the first of the obligations on which we are accountable on the Last Day. The fate of each depends on it. [at Tirmidhi]

In another hadith, it is said that the 5 daily prayers erase sins like the one who sees his impurities disappear by washing himself 5 times a day in a river. [al Bukhari and Muslim]
