Allah’s Signs in the Universe: An Islamic PerspectiveAs Muslims, we believe everything in the universe is a creation of Allah, the Almighty. Every aspect of the universe reflects Allah’s power, wisdom, and beauty, from the vast galaxies and stars to the smallest atoms and molecules. In the Quran, Allah has repeatedly drawn our attention to the signs in the universe, encouraging us to reflect, ponder, and appreciate His magnificence. In Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah says, « We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth » (Quran 41:53). This verse highlights that Allah has placed His signs not only in the external world but also within ourselves. Indeed, every human being is a miraculous creation of Allah, with a complex body and soul that points toward His existence and Oneness. Let’s take a look at some of the signs of Allah in the universe: The Creation of the Heavens and the EarthThe universe is vast and awe-inspiring, with billions of galaxies, stars, and planets spread out across space. The Quran vividly describes the creation of the heavens and earth, highlighting Allah’s power and wisdom. In Surah Al-Anbiya, Allah says, « We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them except in truth and [for] a specified term » (Quran 21:16). This verse reminds us that the universe is not an accident or a random occurrence but a deliberate creation of Allah. The Sun and the MoonThe sun and the moon are among the most prominent features of our universe, providing light, warmth, and the cycles of day and night. Allah has mentioned them in the Quran as symbols of His power and mercy. In Surah Yasin, Allah says, « And a sign for them is the night. We remove from it [the light of] day, so they are [left] in darkness. And the sun runs [on course] toward its stopping point. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing » (Quran 36:37). This verse reminds us that the sun and the moon are part of Allah’s plan and that they follow His command. The MountainsThe mountains are a remarkable feature of the earth, rising from the ground and reaching the sky. Allah mentions the mountains in the Quran as symbols of His power and stability. In Surah An-Naml, Allah says, « Have they not seen that We have made [Makkah] a safe sanctuary, while people are being taken away all around them? Then in falsehood do they believe, and in favor of Allah they disbelieve? And who is more unjust than one who invents about Allah a lie or denies His signs? Indeed, the wrongdoers will not succeed » (Quran 29:67). This verse highlights that the mountains provide stability and safety for the earth, just as Allah provides safety and protection for His believers. The StarsThe stars are another magnificent feature of the universe, with billions spread out across the sky. In the Quran, Allah mentions the stars as symbols of His power and guidance. In Surah Al-An’am, Allah says, « And it is He who placed for you the stars that they may guide you through the darknesses of the land and sea. We have detailed the signs for a people who know » (Quran 6:97). This verse highlights that the stars provide guidance and direction for travelers and are a testament to Allah’s wisdom and mercy. |
